Blog Entry #10 Online Games Aren't so bad

 We all know what video games are and if you don't then you've been living under a rock of years now. Video games are the pinnacle of many lives a modest hobby for most, an escape for few, and a lifestyle and career for very few and far between. With the release of pong in 1972 a very simple tennis like game came a insurgence and plethora of even better and more improved games for all to enjoy. Now here we are about 50 years later talking about them in a blog. Video games have touched our lives in ways that we can begin to understand. Growing up i was somewhat of a outcast so i didn't have many friends, but what i did have was the Super Nintendo. I know it sounds sad but as a 8 year old kid their was much to do. That being said id spend hours playing mario games and old school racing games...these games brought joy and excitement. It wasn't until 2006 that we would be blessed with the PS3 and the Xbox 360. These great consoles both included online play this was amazing.

Online play was the greatest thing since sliced bread for kids like me. On the Xbox came a feature where you could add your friends and create a group voice chat together. With that being said...I had no friends so the best thing i could do is load up the latest call of duty game or halo and go into public matches and try to find friends. Now this was a challenge for little ol' me because i had a high voice and a lot of the other people playing were either older teenagers or very young adults and my thought was none of them want to play with someone with a high voice. Now this was true in a lot of cases but playing in the Halo community is very rewarding. This is one of the best communities out there they are genuine and nice people. Playing this game you meet a lot of different people all with unknown backgrounds, but you all share a common goal! That goal being winning. It was a often occurrence you would hear people talking into their mics trying to teach someone who was new how to play. Some of the people I played with then would send me friend requests and such to play more often with each other. Some of which i still play with today.

Now we're here in 2021 just after the covid pandemic, more people are playing video games than ever ages don't matter. Young or old many enjoy online gaming. People create memories through the use of video games...long lasting memories some that we'll look back at one day and reminisce about. All that being said there are still people that say video games as a whole are bad and should be played. To those who say that i would say to you that, you are wrong. Video games, especially online games have the unique ability to pull you in and engage you for hours on end with some of your closest friends. Creating and bringing in happy memories, feelings, and overall enjoyment. There isn't really and down sides to playing video games. Like anything games are good in moderation, but when played you'll have some of the best moments in your life without even knowing it.
